Ethnobotanical survey on plants used by traditional healers to fight against COVID-19 in Fez city, Northern Morocco

Background: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has now been spread around the world in form of a highly contagious pandemic. The lack effective vaccines against this lethal viral infection is pushing researchers to identify potential sources from natural products that can help fight In Morocco, medicinal and aromatic plants (MAPs) have long used combat infectious diseases. According our knowledge, ?rst ethnobotanical survey Fez city, aimed quantify knowledge by herbalists for fighting COVID-19.Methods: An was conducted city with traditional herbalists, period two months (from beginning November end December 2020). Semi-structured interviews were 50 well-known herbalists. A quantitative analysis approach resulting determination plant use value (PUV) family (FUV) evaluate knowledge.Results: total, 49 species recorded belonging 28 botanical families. PUV index, most important Syzygium aromaticum (L.) Merr. & Perry, Thymus vulgaris L., Eucalyptus globulus Labill., Artemisia L. Lamiaceae dominant family. aerial part part. Most remedies prepared infusion mostly administered orally. 47.36 % customers very satisfied using herbal COVID-19.Conclusion: ethnopharmacological information collected study provides basic data on which promising treatment prevention COVID-19. RésuméContexte: Actuellement, la maladie à coronavirus s'est propagée dans le monde entier sous forme d'une pandémie hautement contagieuse. Le manque de vaccins efficaces contre cette virale et mortelle pousse les chercheurs identifier des potentielles produits naturels qui peuvent aider lutter pandémie. Au Maroc, plantes médicinales aromatiques sont utilisées depuis longtemps pour maladies infectieuses.
